General Information

How the Filter Works

Our content filter uses URL lists and intelligent keywords, providing 23 categories of filtering where each user can have different filtering levels. For security, the filter cannot be modified or uninstalled by anyone other than the administrator. This type of security ensures that users cannot bypass the filter.

When you connect to the Internet, the filter authenticates your user profile to identify who you are, and provide custom filtering based on your profile's configuration.  This authentication process is encrypted, and no private information from your system is being collected. Your account information is always safely guarded.

When you navigate to a website on the Internet, the filter is called into action.  Before any site can be requested from the Internet, the URL is examined based on your profile's filtering criteria .  Also checked, are the phrases that you search on.  If the content you are trying to view conflicts with your profile settings, you will see a blocked screen. Otherwise your request is allowed to pass, and the webpage will load. This whole process normally takes less than a second to complete.

No true filter stops 100% of the targeted sites. Independent testing estimates 90% to 99% of the targeted sites are blocked at any given time. This percentage fluctuates as new sites go up every day.

Extensible - The filter works equally well with most browsers, including Internet Explorer 4, 5 & 6, Netscape 4 & 6, Opera, Prodigy, AOL, and many different Internet utilities. You may switch browsers, and your filtering service will remain active.

Adaptable - You may use a single filtering profile, or set up multiple profiles to customize the filter for your family. Only the Administrator can make amendments to profile settings.
