Disable Call Waiting

Manually in Windows

If call waiting is activated while you are connected to the Internet, an incoming call will disconnect you. You should disable call waiting before you connect to the Internet.

Note: Before following these steps, check with your telephone company to see what code you should use to disable call waiting.

To disable call waiting:

  1. Click Start.
  2. Point to Settings. (XP users skip this step)
  3. Click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the Modems icon, which opens the Modems Properties window. (In Windows 2000, double-click the Phone and Modem Options icon, select your location, and then click Edit.)
  5. Click the General tab.
  6. Click Dialing Properties.
  7. Select the To disable call waiting, dial: check box.
  8. Type in the code the telephone company told you to use to disable call waiting, or select one from the drop down list obtainable by clicking on the button next to the input box
  9. Click OK.
